How the animated teacher blog got started

Katrina created The Animated Teacher blog with one goal in mind: to make the lives of fellow teachers just a little bit easier. Teaching is incredibly rewarding, but it’s also demanding—and often takes up more personal time than anyone expects, especially in the early years. Through this blog, Katrina shares easy-to-implement tips, hacks, lessons, and ideas designed to help teachers engage students in the classroom while still having time to enjoy life outside of work.

Katrina's Education Journey

Katrina’s journey into education began long before her first full-time teaching role. She built experience as an English and Math tutor, clarinet instructor, dance teacher, and youth group leader. She even founded her own dance school. These diverse experiences laid the foundation for her success as an educator.

Early in her career, Katrina was appointed Head of Science in just her second year of teaching—a role that came with a steep learning curve but one she embraced wholeheartedly. That same year, she developed a new approach to curriculum programming in response to the release of a new National Curriculum, which was later published in the Australian Council for Educational Leadership Journal.

Her professional accomplishments include receiving the Teachers’ Guild of NSW Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2014, presenting at national education conferences from 2015 onward, and being awarded the ACEL New Voice Scholarship in 2016, which included an invitation to speak at the ACEL National Conference in Melbourne.

Katrina Outside of Work

Now a proud mother of two girls, Katrina has an even deeper appreciation for the importance of balancing work and home life. She credits her success to the incredible support she’s received throughout her journey and hopes this blog becomes a source of that same support for others—no matter where they are in their teaching careers.
